Aldercote Ireland emerges in 2026 as a joint venture between Mooretown Precision Engineering in Ratoath, County Meath, who have 25 years’ experience in truck body building and access equipment fitting, and Aldercote, the industry-leading designer and manufacturer of vehicle-mounted access platforms. Irish Trucker sat down with Mooretown Precision Engineering managing director Cian Carey to find out more.
Aldercote, the UK’s leading manufacturer of vehicle-mounted access platforms, has announced the launch of Aldercote Ireland, a dedicated sister business created in conjunction with Mooretown Precision Engineering (MPE) to bring the company’s products and expertise directly to customers across Ireland.
Aldercote Ireland is a joint venture between Aldercote and MPE, who have a proven track record going back a quarter of a century in truck body building, access equipment fitting and nationwide maintenance. Operating from Ratoath, just outside Dublin, the new business is ideally placed to serve customers nationwide from Donegal to Cork.
Aldercote has supplied the Irish market for a number of years, building strong brand recognition and market share across the country. The launch of a dedicated in-country operation marks a natural next step: combining Aldercote’s engineering pedigree and product range with Mooretown’s vehicle conversion prowess, established industry relationships and nationwide service capability.
Headquartered in Hull, Aldercote is the UK’s leading designer and manufacturer of vehicle-mounted access platforms for vans, pickups, tracked crawlers and specials. They have been designing and manufacturing vehicle-mounted access platforms since 2003 and are the exclusive UK and Ireland dealer for Altec Insulating Platforms.
The new business will see Aldercote platform kits manufactured at its Hull facility and shipped to Ireland, where the platforms will be mounted on vehicles sourced from Irish dealers by the Aldercote Ireland team. A dedicated spare parts stockholding will also be maintained onsite, enabling fast turnaround and responsive aftersales support across the whole country.

Aldercote designs and manufactures its platforms in Hull, East Yorkshire, UK, and its customers include utilities firms such as telecoms operator Openreach and Irish energy provider ESB, as well as dozens of UK local authorities.
A consistent focus on engineering innovation has been central to the company’s growth and reputation. Its flagship E-Drive system replaces traditional power take-off technology with a self-charging electric solution that allows platforms to operate with the vehicle’s engine switched off. Compared with a conventional PTO setup, E-Drive saves an estimated 600 litres of fuel and 1.5 tonnes of CO2 per platform per year, while also delivering smoother, quieter and more precise operation.
Aldercote’s platforms are lighter than traditional equivalents, using high-tensile steel and optimised boom geometries to give fleet operators greater payload without compromising on height, reach or safety. Most recently, the company has launched a platform range designed specifically for fully electric vehicles, a significant step for fleet operators navigating the transition to zero-emission transport
The genesis of the new company in Ratoath offers Aldercote direct access to the Irish market.
We had already been working with Aldercote for more than 15 years on projects within the ESB sector, integrating their access platforms onto larger vehicles,” Cian explains. “Aldercote manufactured the platforms, while we carried out the bodywork and locker installations. They later approached us to explore the possibility of us managing the mounting of their equipment, and our first project involved fitting ten Transit vans for Northgate using hoists supplied in kit form by Aldercote.
“The project proved highly successful, which led to a meeting with the team in Hull where discussions began around establishing a formal partnership. Given our long-standing relationships with major utilities providers including ESB Networks, Open Eir, KN Networks and Al Read Electrical, it was a natural progression for both companies.
“With an extensive network of industry contacts already in place across Ireland, I will initially oversee the sales function as we establish Aldercote Ireland in the market. As the business grows, we plan to expand the operation further through the recruitment of a dedicated sales team.”
At the time of writing, Aldercote Ireland had completed the installation of ten hoists onto Volvo chassis cabs for ESB, with the vehicles in the process of being delivered. A further 20 units are currently in production, with the hoists en route from the United States and the sub-chassis being supplied from England.
