Brian Cunningham Transport Ltd has bolstered its impressive fleet with the addition of a stunning New Generation DAF XG 480 6×2.
Dedicated to providing exceptional general haulage services across Ireland, the UK and Europe, the Castlebar, Co. Mayo-headquartered operation is running 59 trucks, but this is its first DAF in almost two decades. Looking resplendent in the company’s trademark vibrant yellow and bright orange livery, the XG tractor unit was recently handed over to workshop / fleet manager Kieran Swanick and his daughter Jade by DAF Trucks Dublin fleet sales manager Paul O’Reilly.
As part of its ongoing replenishment programme, Brian Cunningham Transport also took delivery of four new Volvo FH500s from Thomas Hardie Commercials Ltd earlier this year and five last year. The new DAF will further improve efficiency and customer service throughout the company’s operations.
Its specifications include a NGD XG cab; exclusive pack with fixed Super Air Drivers’ seats; exclusive NGD interior; NGD LED skylights; laminated windshield double layer safety glass; exclusive interior LED lighting; cab air suspension; exclusive touch screen DAF Infotainment media system, subwoofer and full Apps store connectivity; DAF Paccar Connect; wireless charging pad; translucent external sun visor; leather steering wheel; 3.8kw night heater; full air conditioning system; main switch on chassis; alcoa aluminium wheels; and much more.
“It’s the first DAF we’ve had since about 2008. Their slogan is ‘DAF Transport Efficiency’ and if this truck lives up to that, we’ll be more than happy,” Kieran says.
“DAF has a reputation for being exceptional on fuel usage. This one will be doing high mileage on the Continent. If you can save one litre per 100km, it’s a lot.”
The new arrival joins a fleet that also includes 43 Renaults, nine Volvos, five Scanias and one Mercedes-Benz. In addition to its trucks, Brian Cunningham Transport operates a fleet of 99 trailers in Ireland and 40 in the UK where it has a depot in Ellesmere Port. It has a third depot in Donabate, Co. Dublin.
“We like comparing different brands,” Kieran explains.
“The bulk of our trucks are Renault T Highs which came from Shaw Commercials here beside us in Castlebar. All maintenance is carried out in-house in Castlebar and Ellesmere Port to ensure there is no such thing as downtime. The trailers are a mix of skellys, containers, refrigerated units and tankers.”
