Redmond Transport marks 30 years with Full of the Pipe visit

Redmond Transport’s immaculately maintained fleet was represented at Full of the Pipe again this summer. With the visit to Mondello Park coinciding with a landmark anniversary for the family business, we caught up with hands-on owner Aidan Redmond during what has been a memorable 2026 for the Wexford haulier.
It’s a big year for Redmond Transport as the long-established Rathnure, County Wexford-based family-run haulage company celebrates 30 years in business. The Redmonds operate a stunning fleet of trucks and trailers, which might not be fresh out of the factory but are kept in pristine condition at all times, thus looking and performing brilliantly.
The company made the journey to Mondello Park in July for the latest instalment of Full of the Pipe, having been regular supporters of Ireland’s premier truck show over the years.
Speaking ahead of the event, Aidan was delighted to see Full of the Pipe continuing to thrive at a time when a number of other truck shows have disappeared from the calendar.
“We’ve been up at Full of the Pipe before and are really looking forward to going back again this year,” the amiable Wexford trucker commented when we briefly interrupted his busy schedule. “A few shows have dropped off unfortunately and it’s great to see Full of the Pipe still going strong. Waterford is gone, sadly, and a few others, so we’ll definitely be bringing a couple of trucks to Full of the Pipe this year.”
Aidan also echoed the thoughts of everybody preparing for the 2026 show when he referenced that most unpredictable of factors – the Irish weather.
“We’re looking forward to it and hopefully we’ll get the weather for it again because it’s always a great show and good weather makes it even better.”
Aidan has a penchant for running older Scanias, which are upgraded and maintained to the very highest spec, finding that this works out much better than sinking money into brand-new models.
Ahead of Full of the Pipe, his intention was to have a selection of these trucks representing Redmond Transport at Mondello Park.
“I’m planning to bring two 4-Series Scanias to the show and I also have an R560 coming which will hopefully be ready on time. It’s coming in second hand from England and I’m confident we’ll have it tidied up and ready for Full of the Pipe. The plan at the minute is to take three lorries up, please God.”
This year’s Full of the Pipe had added significance for Redmond Transport as it dovetailed perfectly with the company’s 30th-anniversary celebrations, with Aidan’s father – also Aidan – having initially started out in haulage in 1996.
“It’s a great landmark in fairness,” agrees the man who took the reins 13 years ago. “It’s not easy to keep her going and there have been many ups and downs but we kept at it and kept working hard, looking after customers and thankfully we’re still here today.”
The enduring longevity of the business speaks volumes for the quality, reliability and flexibility of the service consistently delivered. In this line of work, as readers of this magazine realise only too well, loyalty is earned only through hard work, professionalism and integrity.
Having a genuine passion for trucks and trucking also helps and this is an area where Redmond Transport – which possesses the experience, wherewithal and equipment to provide a comprehensive range of general haulage services covering Ireland, the UK and sometimes mainland Europe – stands out from the pack.
“We’re still running five trucks and two vans [a Ford Transit box body with tail-lift and a small Renault Trafic], and that’s what works for us,” says Aidan. “You have to be versatile these days and we’re doing a mixed bag of everything.”
Amid a mixed fleet of trailers, Redmond Transport runs box trailers, curtainsiders, skelly trailers and a Megalift trailer which can lift fully-loaded containers. They also carry out low-loader work.
“You can’t have all your eggs in one basket,” Aidan continues. “We bought different trailers to do different work and it’s working out well for us. We keep all older trucks and maintain them. The truck I drive to Portugal and will be bringing to Lanzarote too is an ’01. There are no computers on them and they are very straightforward to upkeep and maintain. We’ve rebuilt that truck from scratch and it gives very little trouble – once you keep on top of it, there’s never an issue.”
Expanding on the regular road trips to Portugal and the planned journey to Lanzarote, Aidan continues: “A new venture we’ve got into is moving fit-out furniture out to Portugal for an interior designer – a lot of handmade stuff. All the furniture is either made here or imported to here and we then deliver it for them and also fly out the men to fit it, so it’s a complete service.
“That’s something new that’s going really well. The last one we did was in Vilamoura in Portugal and the next scheduled spin will be to Lanzarote at the end of the summer.”
Lanzarote in a lorry sounds like a fairly lengthy round trip?
“I’m going to be going myself and I’m looking forward to it,” Aidan notes. “It’s certainly something a little bit different. I’ll get the ferry from Rosslare to Bilbao and then drive across Spain to Portugal and get another ferry from there to Lanzarote.
“It’ll take around 31 hours on the ferry to Bilbao, then a 15-hour drive and then another 24 hours on the second boat. Once you get off the ferry out there, the thing with their timetables is that there might not be a return ferry for four days. But I’m looking forward to it and we’ll be fitting the furniture during that time anyway. We’ll be flying a few guys down to the job site and I’ll meet up with them and we’ll make sure everything is right.”
As a family business first and foremost, Redmond Transport is synonymous with exceptional service levels. Aidan has surrounded himself with a top-class team of skilled and experienced drivers, comprising his brother Thomas, father, uncle Owen and Ray, who has given a lifetime’s service.
“Ray has been here since the ’90s and is a big part of the team,” he concludes. “We like to keep it tight and clean and it works for us.”
