Butler & Young Tyres offer a Premier service

Butler & Young Tyres in Thurles is a one-stop shop for all your truck, bus, 4x4, car and agri tyres and repairs in Co. Tipperary and beyond. 

Established in 2017 by brothers-in-law Laurence Butler and Paul Young, Butler & Young Tyres has quickly established itself as a leading independent tyre retailer in the region by stocking a wide range of brands to suit every budget and offering an unrivalled service. In addition, the company provides a reliable 24-hour breakdown service as well as fast puncture repairs, 3D wheel alignment, tracking, brakes and spares such as batteries, wipers and bulbs. 

The company has two depots in Thurles which are located at opposite ends of the town in Parnell Street and Loughtagalla. Between the two, 13 full-time and three part-time staff are employed. 

“We’re going from strength to strength,” Paul Young enthuses. 

“Laurence and I had known each other for many years before teaming up to set up the business. Both of us had previously worked with Martin Shanahan Tyres, which was owned by my uncle Martin. I gave 20 years' service there and Laurence left to do an apprenticeship in truck mechanics. We looked for a premises and we eventually found one in Parnell Street. 

“Then, in 2023, the opportunity to open a second depot in the former Shanahan Tyres premises in Loughtagalla came up and we jumped at it. It’s on the outskirts of Thurles and is therefore easier to access for larger vehicles such as trucks and buses. So we now have Parnell Street catering for small vehicles and Loughtagalla catering for both smaller and larger ones.” 

The co-director adds: “The two premises complement each other as they can do what the other can’t do. Laurence looks after the trucks and agri end of the business, and I look after the cars and light commercials. Opening the second branch in Loughtagalla has proven to be very successful as we picked up a lot more turck and agri customers countrywide." 

The two depots have everything Laurence, Paul and their highly-skilled team of fitters need to repair and replace tyres. Butler & Young Tyres offers free and impartial advice on the best quality tyres to suit your needs and budgets. It represents premium tyre brands such as Dunlop, RoadX, Continental and Yokohama for trucks, Continental, Uniroyal, RoadX and Dynamo for cars and BKT for agri equipment as well as budget brands such as Greenlander. The company has a wide range of national and international suppliers. 

“We pride ourselves on our quality products and unrivalled service. Our primary concern, however, is the safety of our customers, hence the importance of choosing the right tyre to suit your vehicle and the way you drive it,” Paul says.

Butler & Young Tyres has built up an impressive client-base in the haulage, agri and recycling sectors which includes Clean Ireland Recycling, Keyline Transport and Thornton's Waste Disposal to name but a few. 

“It’s all down to repeat business and the support of our customers. We’d be nothing without them. Most of our business is secured through word of mouth and referrals from existing customers. Our goal is to keep the wheels of their business moving at all times and to keep downtime to a minimum," Paul adds. 

Another string to the company’s bow is its 24-hour breakdown service. It has six fully-kitted mobile units covering Tipperary and surrounding areas.
