Quality service guaranteed at SMC Truck Parts
15/12/2025
Operating out of Newbliss, Co Monaghan, SMC Truck Parts Ltd stocks a wide range of genuine and aftermarket truck, bus and trailer parts. Irish Trucker spoke with its founder Sean McCusker to hear more about the state of business at the moment for his company and its overall hopes going forward.
Since its inception in 2017, SMC Truck Parts Ltd is a company which has always gone to great lengths to source its parts and knows the importance of stocking a comprehensive range of parts for its customers.
With four people working full-time within the business, much of its focus nowadays is on selling Scania and Volvo truck parts to its customers.
Sean and Agita McCusker run the company together side by side, with their 22-year-old son Davis helping out on a part-time basis doing deliveries.
Irish Trucker caught up with Sean recently to discuss the ins and outs of the company, its services and what he feels separates it from the competition out there.
“There’s four of us in the business altogether,” he outlined. “Agita and I run the company and our son Davis is working here now as well (part-time).
“We're steady with work here all the time. We've definitely moved up in the world a good bit in the last couple of years.
“We're steady all the time. I haven't dropped anything and definitely climbed the ladder a bit in the last year or two.
“We’ve covered the whole of Ireland and UK, Northern Ireland, sell a bit to Australia and all over.”
Indeed, business has gone from strength to strength for SMC Truck Parts Ltd since it set-up shop eight years ago.
The company stocks a wide range of parts that include everything from air brake components, clutches, turbos and body panels to lubricants, filters and airbags.
These days, SMC Truck Parts is primarily selling parts for two leading trucks brands.
“It’s mostly Scania and Volvo truck parts that we sell here. That's my bread and butter because I would’ve been a mechanic at Scania,” said Sean.
He added: “Mostly Scania and Volvo. It’s probably in and around 70% Scania and 30% Volvo. My background would’ve been as a mechanic and breaking trucks for Scania for probably 20 years.”
SMC Truck Parts are always looking to increase their stock and, to date, have gone to great lengths to source parts that are not widely available to the Irish market.
As for its vehicles on the road, the company is operating with two vans and one jeep which serve to cover the entire country.
It all helps to give the customer a set time as to when they will receive their part or parts.
“I got a 2021 Forde Transit Connect from Bright Motors in Dublin which is a limited-edition model,” said Sean.
“She’s number 20 of 30, there was only 30 of them ever made and it’s still going strong for us here.”
In July, the company’s superb looking van enjoyed success at the 2025 Full of the Pipe Truck Show at Mondello Park.
A project which Davis McCusker took a keen interest in saw SMC Truck Parts getting runner-up in the show’s Best Light Commercial category.
It was a fantastic result for the Monaghan business and a testament to the hard work Davis, an avid truck show goer, put in in the run up to it.
“My son nearly does to them all (truck shows). He got second place at the Full of the Pipe Truck Show,” said Sean.
“He's three trophies, I think. He got Best Light Commercial at the Monaghan Truck Show there only a couple of weeks ago. He’s heading for Tipperary next.”
Overall, business is good and the company’s vehicles are in tip top shape as well.
So, all of that considered, the clear question is what has been the secret behind its success to date?
What is it about SMC Truck Parts that has its customers choosing it first ahead of other competitors out there?
For Sean, it comes down to a combination of different factors.
“The knowledge that I would have on Scanias and stuff like that,” he stated. “It's not that I don't have a background on them, I have a good background on Scanias and Volvo as well.
“So I would have a fair idea. I very seldom ever get parts wrong, if you know what I mean, by sending out to the customer or whatever, because I have the knowledge of working at them for years.
“That'd be the winner and then plus I’m 24 hours, we'd take calls any day or night.”
He added: “We are very keenly priced for all our parts, which are sourced both locally and further afield. Our customers know that they will receive a quality service and at the end of the day, we are not here to make millions; just a living.”
Looking towards the coming months for the business, the Farney County native is hoping to expand the operation a little bit more while, of course, making sure that customers remain satisfied along the way.
“We're hoping to grow. At the moment, I'm trying to see if I can find myself a premises to expand a bit bigger. It's just not easy yet.
“That's my problem, but I definitely want to expand a wee bit and maybe hope for the best that my three boys will take it over themselves at some point,” he concluded.
