Eamonn Bolger is the man behind MEB Equipment which is an acronym for Manitou Eamonn Bolger. “Some people think MEB are the initials of my twin daughters Megan and Emma Bolger!” the Tullow man jokingly remarks.
“I was one of the first to introduce truck-mounted forklift trucks to the UK and Irish markets well over 30 years ago. I’ve been in the business since 1991 when I joined Carol Moffett in Moffett Engineering. When the company was acquired by Powerscreen in 1997, I went out on my own as a dealer for Moffett, trading as Moffett Equipment.
“Then, in 2002, I switched over to Manitou and have sold over 1,000 of their machines to Irish and UK customers since then. It’s a far cry now from the early days when I went around knocking on doors trying to make a sale. Manitou has 10 dealers in Ireland now. After 70 years in business, the brand has a great name and is renowned for its rough terrain forklifts. We also offer five-year warranties on every new machine we sell.”
Eamonn adds: “Since Brexit, we have two separate companies in Carlow and Middlesex. The Irish arm of the business accounts for about 30% of our sales. We have many loyal customers in the transport industry whose business we greatly value and appreciate. We’re also gaining new customers all the time through word of mouth and exhibiting at the National Ploughing Championships, the Tipperary Truck Show and other similar events.

Manitou’s two best-selling forklifts at the moment are the 2.5 tonne TMT 25S and the 2.7 tonne TMT 27 S. The TMT 25S 4-Way machine adopts all of the technological features that make the TMT a proven success. This includes the telescopic boom, hydrostatic transmission and 3-wheel drive with braking. In addition to this, there is a push button which allows activation of the 4-Way function, enabling the three wheels to rotate to 90 degrees. This feature makes the forklift easy to handle long loads, even in confined spaces.
Specially designed for transport companies, the TMT 25S 4W is an indispensable tool, boasting an unparallelled rated capacity in the current marketplace. The 1.5m boom extension allows reaching for the second row of pallets a whole lot easier. Also, the pivoting boom at the rear gives the TMT a side-shift function. In addition to delivering excellent gradeability, the forklift offers a powerful performance in material handling.
The TMT 25S 4W is equipped with an anti-rollover system, an operator presence sensor and a 3-wheel drive braking system which ensures the safety of the operator at all times. Furthermore, the telescopic boom also provides clear visibility for safe material handling.
The larger Manitou TMT 27 S truck, with its telescopic boom, allows you to load and unload all types of materials efficiently. The TMT 27 S offers a maximum load capacity of 2.7 tonnes and a unique ability to unload your truck from one side. For heavy loads such as pallets of blocks, bricks and mortar, it offers the best capacity on the market. With the TMT 27 S, you have 360-degree visibility from the driver's seat.
