The company can carry out all necessary maintenance and repairs to your van, truck or trailer at its state-of-the-art workshop, which boasts a full range of diagnostics for all makes and models.
In addition, Coogan Commercials’ 24-hour breakdown service covers an area which stretches from Belfast to Dublin, while its vehicle hire division continues to flourish by offering a large selection of trucks, trailers, vans and 4x4s for both short- and long-term hire.
“We’re a one-stop shop for all your truck, trailer and commercial maintenance and repair needs as well as for breakdowns and vehicle hire,” says Gavin, who founded the thriving business in 2018.
“We’ve earned an enviable reputation for our professional, reliable, prompt and value-for-money service. We recently added roller brake testing to our range of services and continue to grow the vehicle hire side of the business.
“We started hire two years ago and have everything from long- and short-wheel base vans, Scania eight-wheel tippers and 6x2 tractor units to box vans, curtainsiders and other trailers available for hire. It’s another string to our bow which caters mainly for the haulage and construction sectors.”
Coogan Commercials’ commercial vehicle mechanics are experienced in working on all types of vehicles such as vans, trucks, trailers and tail lifts. Among the services that they provide are: general commercial repairs; servicing and PSV preparation; routine inspections, including six-weekly checks; advanced diagnostics – Jaltest software, Scania and Volvo systems; JOSAM laser wheel alignment and air conditioning regas; gearbox, differential and tail lift repairs and servicing; and roller brake testing. The garage is LOLER and weight testing verified.
The workshop also carries a wide range of spare parts and offers a 24/7 mobile breakdown service. Gavin has two callout vans and a Scania recovery truck and low loader dedicated to this service. Coogan Commercials is committed to providing a complete range of proactive and reactive solutions to ensure downtime is kept to an absolute minimum and vehicle owners can get back on the road as quickly and safely as possible.
“Time is money for our customers and with that in mind, we keep their downtime to a minimum by carrying out repairs and servicing quickly and efficiently at our three-bay workshop. We’re here to keep the wheels of your fleet turning with routine maintenance, servicing and repairs,” the 28-year-old adds.
The exceptional commercial vehicle garage continues to attract new customers through word of mouth and referrals from existing clients. No job is too big or too small for Gavin and his team who maintain the fleets of Masterlink, JC ENVIRO, Mourne Freight Services, Morgan Fuels, McKeown Haulage, Eland Cables, and Slieve Gullion Stone to name but a few.
It’s clear from talking to Gavin that he has a tremendous passion for – and understanding of – trucks.
“I’ve been in business on my own for seven years now, having worked in Granco Scania for four years before that. I’ve been around lorries all my life and know them inside-out at this stage,” he explains.
“When you have satisfied customers, they will let others know about the service you provided. As I said already, it’s all about offering a good service with a quick turnaround and the minimum of downtime. The nature of haulage is such that they all need to get back on the road as soon as possible, so you do your best to get them in and out as quickly as you can, while also making sure all the work is carried out to the highest standards.”
Gavin currently employs six people who are highly-skilled, dependable and experienced. “Our people are our greatest asset. I have a great crew around me who never let me or the customer down. They’re always willing to go the extra mile,” he enthuses.
“We’re constantly investing in our equipment and software. You simply have to remain up-to-date with the latest equipment and keep refreshing, upgrading and improving yourself because the reality is that every new lorry that comes out today has something new on it that you haven’t seen before and you have to keep on top of it all the time.”
Gavin is fully hands-on himself.
“I work six days a week and am in the workshop most of that time. I’d also be out and about on the road sourcing parts and equipment. There’s always plenty to do.”
