Farrelly Transport)

Based in Drumconrath, Co Meath, Farrelly Transport Services specialises in haulage and low loader work for its clients throughout the region. Irish Trucker touched base with Office Administrator Debra Farrelly to hear all about the ins and outs of the business – from the fleet it operates to the state of business at the moment.

Next year will mark a decade-and-a-half since Farrelly Transport Services’ inception and, right now, business is in a good place for the family-run operation.

Employing eight full-time staff, the company currently has the same number of trucks on the road and an additional 15 trailers in its fleet.

While Farrelly Transport Services was set-up as a business in 2011, the Farrelly family name has been synonymous with the transport industry for decades now.

Managing Director Pat Farrelly has the best part of four decades of experience in the haulage game, having previously worked as transport manager with his father Paddy’s company, Farrelly Plant Hire.

Pat’s sons Patrick Jnr and Aaron, and daughter Debra have followed in their father’s footsteps by becoming immersed in the company and the transport industry as a result.

Irish Trucker caught up with Debra Farrelly recently to learn more about this third-generation family business operating out of the Royal County.

“Right now, we have eight working here and eight trucks in the fleet, with 15 to 16 trailers,” the company’s Office Administrator outlined.

“Business is good at the moment. We’re busy here and really getting back into the swing of it now (after the Christmas break).

Debra points out that around 95 percent of Farrelly Transport Services’ work is for Breedon (formerly the Lagan Group), drawing aggregates, tarmac and bitumen for them along with machinery and abnormal loads.

Headquartered in the UK, Beedon has numerous bases throughout Ireland and is a leading producer and supplier of raw earth products and materials.

Through its association with Breedon, Farrelly Transport Services’ fleet colour is blue and the two parties have enjoyed an excellent working relationship for many years now.

“About 95% of our work would be for them. They are a great company to work for. My father has dealt with them for over 30 years. We go the extra mile for all of our customers,” Debra stated.

Going the extra mile for the client requires the right equipment at your disposal and Farrelly Transport Services has always endeavoured to keep its fleet up to date and well maintained.

The company’s eight trucks are a mix of Iveco and DAF artics and rigids, while the trailers in the yard at De Valera Park in Drumconrath are of the trusted Kelberg and Kassbohrer brands.

Some new additions to the fleet have been made recently and the plans are to add again down the line, according to Debra.

“We got a new DAF there last year. A new artic truck and we have a new Iveco coming and a new transport low loader,” she said.

“So, we’re updating the fleet and keeping it fresh. We got the DAF and the Iveco off Kearns & Murtagh in Dundalk and they’ve been going great for us since.

“All going well, we hope to add to the fleet again soon.”

So, all of that considered, the burning question is what has been the secret behind the success of Farrell Transport Services to date?

How has a small start-up grown into what is now a thriving haulage and low loader specialists which holds an excellent reputation among its customers.

For the company Office Admin, she sees as being down to two valuable traits in particular when it comes to this line of work.

“Loyalty, I think, and reliability as well,” Debra stated plainly.

“We’ve been working with them over the last 30 odd years and there’s a good working relationship there with all of the lads. There’s been a lot of trust there built up over the years.”

As haulage and low loader work specialists, Farrelly Transport Services has always prided itself on its dependable, trustworthy, value-for-money, friendly and unrivalled service.

All of the company’s trucks and trailers are maintained and serviced on a regular basis to ensure there is no such thing as downtime. Most of this is carried out by Kearns & Murtagh, with other suppliers including Mileage Tyres in Navan, Doyle Truck & Trailers in Clondalkin and GEM Oils in Cavan.

Looking towards the coming months for the family business, Debra says the overall hopes are to remain busy as they are right now at the moment in De Valera Park.

“Hopefully, it’ll be bigger and better things (in 2025) and keeping stay busy. Keep all the lads on the road and going,” she concluded.

Always committed to quality and complete customer satisfaction, Farrelly Transport Services would like to take this opportunity to thank its customers and suppliers for their continued support, as well as its staff for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
