Approaching 25 years in business, Tony Boylan Transport Ltd is a leading haulage operation which specialises in the transportation of food stuffs and liquids.

Based in Ashbourne, Co. Meath, the family-run business was founded in 2001 by Tony Boylan and continues to go from strength to strength under the direction of his son David. Tony and his wife Terry remain directors of the company while another son, Robbie, is one of nine full-time drivers who are supported by two part-timers. Halpenny Haulage, who they share the same yard with, David McEntee Transport, who also operate out of Ashbourne, and Paul Dowling Transport in Carlow, work for Tony Boylan Transport on a subcontract basis.

Tony is equally as well-known as an RSA certified instructor (ADI) who provides CPC training courses in the region for Solas. Prior to setting up Tony Boylan Transport, he had driven on the Continent for many years and accumulated a vast amount of experience in the industry.

Professional, polite and reliable, Tony Boylan Transport offers a hassle-free and affordable service where the customer needs' always take priority. They are currently running a modern fleet of nine Scania articulated trucks and 40 tank carriers. As part of an ongoing replenishment programme, the company recently took delivery of two new Scania S560s from Delaney Commercials and half a dozen tank carriers from Dennison Trailers.

“We’ve been dealing with Delaney Commercials and Dennison Trailers for many years, and the service they both give is second to none. Whenever there is an issue, which is seldom, they are always there for us. They’re also both located in Naas which is very convenient for us as we’re passing their doors every day doing collections and deliveries for Tirlán,” David Boylan explains.

“Whenever we invest in a new Dennison trailer, we run it by Commercial Repair Services in Dunshaughlin first. They help us to pick the trailer with the right spec’ for the type of work we do. The brakes and the axle systems have to be right. If we can prevent axle twists, it will prolong the life of the trailer and reduce maintenance and repair costs.”

The Co. Meath haulage firm takes great pride in the appearance of their fleet. With their striking white and livery, they are a real head-turner.

“How your vehicles look says everything about your company. If they are clean and well presented, it gives a good impression,” David continues.

Behind the wheel of every Boylan truck is a reliable, experienced and courteous driver. “Our drivers are the best in the business. They always deliver the goods,” the affable general manager proudly states.

“We’re lucky to have them because it’s not easy to source good drivers these days. It is definitely an ageing profession as there are not many young people looking at driving lorries as a career. And those who are interested are finding it very difficult to get insurance. It is certainly something that needs to be looked at in the near future or we could be faced with a driver shortage crisis down the line.

“We also enjoy an excellent working relationship with our subcontractors Halpenny Haulage, David McEntee Transport and Paul Dowling Transport. It’s a real team, from Cybil and I in the office, to the lads out on the road.”

When it comes to the transportation of food stuffs and liquids, Tony Boylan Transport are confident that they can meet all of your requirements and can point to many satisfied and repeat customers. You can rest assured that you are getting both excellent value-for-money and a personal service on each and every job.

The company’s two main clients are dairy giants Tirlán and Lakeland Dairies who they transport palm oil and butter oil on behalf of.

“We collect palm oil from Dublin Port and deliver it to Bailieboro and Newtownards for Lakeland Dairies, and Virginia, Ballyragget and Belview for Tirlán. We also collect butter oil from Ballyragget and tallow (animal fat) from other customers and transport it nationwide. One of our big selling points is our on-site steaming facility for palm oil which allows us to liquify it before delivery,” David says.

Looking to the future, he adds: “We would like to grow the business more and we feel that the work is there to do so. However, our main focus is to ensure that our customers continue to be happy with our service. We are always looking at ways to improve and going forward we are confident that we can.”

In summary, Tony Boylan Transport prides itself on its professional, dependable, trustworthy, cost-effective and unrivalled service. The thriving family business would like to take this opportunity to thank their clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as their drivers for their dedication, hard work and expertise.
