Sean Moriarty Transport Ltd in Dundalk received an early 40th birthday present recently when it was named Best Family Business at the Louth Business Awards.
Established in 1985, the 40th anniversary celebrations started early for the third-generation family business when it scooped the prestigious accolade at the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce’s annual gala dinner in The Carrickdale Hotel on Saturday, October 19 last. The judging panel was made up of representatives from DkIT, Regional Development Centre, Local Enterprise Office Louth as well as other business leaders and industry experts.
“We are proud and delighted to receive this award,” Sean Moriarty Transport general manager Stephen Daly enthuses.
"While we pride ourselves on being a family business, we wouldn’t have won without our amazing staff. We all get on well together, we all have each other’s backs, whether it be in a professional or personal capacity. So a huge ‘thank you’ to them, friends and family for their support. We are extremely grateful for this recognition and for the continued journey ahead.”
He adds: “We have another big night out planned for The Fairways Hotel in July to mark 40 years in business. It's a great milestone to reach.”
No fewer than nine family members are involved in Sean Moriarty Transport which is a leading logistics company specialising in efficient and reliable transportation services. They are: managing director Linda Daly, her husband Stephen Daly, founder Sean Moriarty, Sean’s wife Paula, their daughter and driver Lorna, Sean’s sisters Ann and Joan (both accounts / admin), his brother-in-law Brendan Gernon, who has been a driver with the business for over 20 years, and Linda and Stephen’s son, Adam, who is an apprentice HGV mechanic under the guidance of Raymond Flanagan.
The directors are Linda Daly, Sean Moriarty and Paula Moriarty.
In all, there are 33 people employed, including 18 drivers. Sean Moriarty Transport’s primary focus is on serving businesses in need of freight solutions across Ireland, Europe and the UK. Catering for various industries, including manufacturing, retail and e-commerce, its target market consists of small- to medium-sized enterprises requiring regular shipments as well as large corporations seeking flexible transport solutions. The award-winning logistics company particularly appeals to companies who value punctuality, care in handling goods and excellent customer service.
Sean Moriarty Transport’s services are tailored to meet the needs of businesses looking for cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality. It aims to be the preferred choice for businesses seeking a dependable partner to manage their supply chain logistics.
The family business’ uniqueness lies in its personalised approach and deep understanding of local markets. It offers tailored logistics solutions that adapt to each client’s specific needs, rather than a one-size-fits-all model. Its advanced technology platform provides real-time tracking and seamless communication, ensuing transparency throughout the supply chain. This is coupled with exceptional customer service where dedicated account managers are always available to address concerns promptly.
Furthermore, Sean Moriarty Transport prides itself on its reliability and flexibility, often going above and beyond to meet urgent or unusual requests. Its commitment to sustainability, through eco-friendly practices and optimised routes, appeals to environmentally-conscious clients.
Ultimately, the company is not just a service provider, but a trusted partner in its clients’ business growth and success.
Boasting extensive experience in warehousing and pallet storage services, Sean Moriarty Transport runs a top-class fleet of trucks and trailers, including two new Renault rigids which look resplendent in the company’s trademark red-and-white livery colour scheme.
“We’re currently operating 11 rigids, six artics, six curtainsiders and three vans,” explains Stephen, who came on board as general manager last February after spending 27 years in the Defence Forces.
“Apart from two Volvos, the rest of the trucks are Renault. We deal with Aaron Clarke in Setanta Trucks for all our Renault needs. Setanta’s customer service and aftercare is second to none. We carry out our own maintenance and repairs to ensure there is no such thing as downtime. We have two state-of-the-art warehouses, a workshop and eight office spaces at our premises on the Coe’s Road in Dundalk.
“We have some fantastic local customers, including Teeling Whiskey, Deluxe Bathrooms, Uniblock, Norbrook Laboratories, AP Controls, George Quinn Stairs and PWS Signs to name but a few. We are grateful for their continued support and the support of so many others.”
Sean Moriarty Transport has come a long way since it was set up as a one-man, one-van operation. The Co. Louth company has built up a large customer-base by providing an unrivalled nationwide, Europe and UK groupage service. It offers a transparent, reliable and cost-effective transport service, from small packages and pallet loads to full containers.
Reflecting on the first 40 years, Sean Moriarty says: “I started with a small van doing a local delivery service. Having worked in a local factory for 13 years prior to that, it was all new to me but I soon got the hang of it and the business has been steadily growing ever since."
Sean Moriarty Transport’s location halfway between Dublin and Belfast and beside the M1 means nowhere in Ireland is too far away. As well as the two warehouses, there is a secure yard in Dundalk that facilitates 24-hour operations. All trucks are fully tracked and can be loaded and unloaded undercover, totally protected from the elements to ensure your freight is kept in perfect condition at all times.
Here's to the next 40 years!
