George Anderson Commercial Repairs celebrate landmark anniversary
13/03/2025
People come first at George Anderson Commercial Repairs Ltd., an industry-leading commercial vehicle repair, maintenance and modification specialist that has been delivering exceptional services across the North West for 20 years. By invariably going out of their way to look after customers – and their vehicles – this outstanding family business continues to go from strength to strength.
The customer is king at George Anderson Commercial Repairs and that’s the way it has been for two decades and counting. As this model family-run business, which is driven by an authentic love of all things truck-related, marks its landmark 20th anniversary, we called into their modern Ballintra, County Donegal workshop to catch up with Kyle Anderson, who has been at the helm here for seven years.
Following in the footsteps of his father George, who established the eponymous company in 2005, Kyle possesses an innate enthusiasm for and understanding of trucks – how they look and what makes them work. This has been his passion throughout his life and today Kyle is the driving force behind George Anderson Commercial Repairs, who are trusted by countless fleet and vehicle owners from near and far to repair, upkeep and upgrade their pride and joy.
A limited company since 2017, George Anderson Commercial Repairs has over the past score of years earned a stellar reputation for carrying out a full range of maintenance, repairs and modifications to trucks, trailers, buses and commercial vehicles at its state-of-the-art workshop conveniently located just off the main Donegal town to Ballyshannon road.
Kyle is pleased to report that on the back of regular repeat custom from loyal, satisfied customers as well as positive referrals through word of mouth, business remains brisk: “We’re very busy and there’s a lot going on, thank God. We were pretty much flat out for all of 2024, from January right through. It got a little quiet at the start of July but that gave us a chance to get a few other bits and pieces done. Things took off big time last year and we’re hoping for another good year this year.”
The modern, well-appointed workshop boasts cutting-edge diagnostic equipment for all makes and models of light and heavy commercial vehicles, while George Anderson Commercial Repairs - renowned for consistently providing a prompt, professional, efficient, friendly and value-added service - carries a wide range of genuine spare parts; provides made-to-measure hydraulic pipes, welding and wheel alignment services; and is a recognised brake shoe relining specialist.
Meanwhile, a top-class 24/7 breakdown and recovery service is also provided, using the Andersons’ own lovingly-restored Scania R620, manned by Kyle himself, who takes a hands-on approach to running the business. This means long hours and limited days off…
“We try our best to keep everybody on the road. The nature of the work means there’s not much room for holidays but I don’t mind that as I love what I’m doing.”
Kyle also likes to attend as many trucks shows, truck runs and charity events as possible. He took the aforementioned immaculately-maintained Scania R620 twin-wheel tag recovery truck to Full of the Pipe in Mondello Park last summer, along with the brand-new Volkswagen Transporter recovery van purchased in 2024, which is fully-kitted out with everything needed for roadside service and features an eye-watering host of extras.
“Full of the Pipe was great, it went very well. We always do well at all the shows – it’s a good way of networking with and meeting people. We took part in the first Conor Browne Charity Truck & Tractor Run in Castlederg in late September, too. A sad occasion and we were happy to show our support.”
Social networks are another important means of getting one’s name out there and Kyle is very active online, which is proving to be an interesting and fun way of bringing in new enquiries and new business. “I find that Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat are great. You have friends adding you and a lot of people will contact you after seeing what you are doing. It’s a good way of advertising.
“We’re very active on there, updating our content. Once people see the work you have done, say you have fitted light bars or souped up a lorry, they will reach out to you to see if you can do a similar job for them on their lorry. It’s a good way to pick up a bit of work.”
Kyle treats every customer fairly and goes out of his way to make sure they all get the same top-class service, affording each and every vehicle the same exacting attention to detail. This is why George Anderson Commercial Repairs is renowned near and far as the one-stop shop for all commercial vehicle needs, be it an aesthetic upgrade, repair, service or pre-test check-up.
Kyle is humbled and honoured to be able to count the likes of SR Refrigerated Transport, Cherrymore Kitchens & Bedrooms, Nordstar International Transport, Keith Cleary Plant Hire, Danny McGee & Sons Plant Hire, Donegal Coach Hire, AC International Logistics & Freight, Tinney’s Oil & Coal, Michael Kelly Haulage, Kerrigan Transport, John McDermott Transport, Axis Construction and many others amongst his ever-growing list of customers.
“We’re lucky to have many longstanding clients who keep coming back and also a right few new customers,” Kyle concludes. “I treat every man with the same respect and attention, with no short cuts. I always take my time and do every job properly. If you put in the work, people will put in a good word. We have a lot of experience and a good reputation.
“It’s all about looking after people. I find that if you take your time and get the work done properly every time, then you’ll have no problems.”
This approach has served George Anderson Commercial Repairs well for two decades and there’s plenty more to come from this exceptional family business which continues to go above and beyond the call of duty to look after truckers!
