Clean sweep always assured with Top Sweep Services
10/02/2025

From humble beginnings in 2019, Top Sweep Services has grown into a leading road maintenance and cleaning company in the greater Dublin area.
Offering a diverse range of services, including road sweeping, gully sucking, power washing and vacuum excavation, the Duleek, Co. Meath-based firm has become a trusted partner for Dublin Port, Stenaline, Irish Ferries, Roadstone, Breedon and Kilsaran to name but a few. Top Sweep Services boasts a nine-strong fleet of road sweepers, one vacuum excavator and will shortly take delivery on a custom-built roadjetter as it continues to go from strength to strength.
Construction sites can produce a large amount of dirt and dust that is easily spread around surrounding areas. This can cause Health & Safety issues as well as creating a loss of goodwill with local residents and businesses affected by the build.
Top Sweep Services’ road sweepers are commonly used in and around busy construction sites to keep roads and access areas clean as well as suppressing dust. The company ensures essential construction site safety is maintained and protects the surrounding environment from contamination.
Working in the family business Blacktop Tarmacadam Co Ltd, Chris Bissett identified a niche in the market for a reliable road sweeping enterprise. That led to him setting up Top Sweep Services in March 2019. Fronted by his father Kevin, Blacktop Tarmacadam specialises in the design, layout and supply of all Asphalt products for roads, car parks and driveways. Boasting a wide portfolio of clients, it is recognised as one of Ireland’s leading tarmac contractors.
“The idea came from a constant struggle to get reliable sweepers which delayed the jobs we were working on,” Chris remembers.
“Time-wise and machine-wise, the service wasn’t good enough. So we decided to provide our own road sweeping service which is not only used by Blacktop, but multiple other clients across Dublin and the Leinster region. We are the main road sweeping company in Dublin Port and also have contracts for any spillages or debris on the M3 and M4 motorways. Our ‘bread and butter’ work is in quarries and on construction sites.
“Our customer-base ranges from quarry, roadwork and construction companies to shipping firms and private housing estates. By offering both long- and short-term contracts, we’re able to meet the varied needs of all our clients.”
Central to the company’s success has been its modern and efficient fleet, top-class team and unwavering commitment to Health & Safety. It is currently running nine DAF, Iveco and Volvo road sweepers, including three new arrivals with Stock sweeper bodies and advanced sweeping gear. The other six sweepers have Johnston bodies.
“We started out with a 2013-reg Johnston unit and added a 2014-reg a year later. We bought four sweepers in our first three years in business,” the affable managing director explains.
“We continue to grow the fleet and enjoy an excellent relationship with Tom Stock of Stock Sweepers in particular. They are a great family business who have grown into the UK’s premier company for remounting truck-mounted sweepers. Our goal is to have a fleet where the oldest sweeper is under five years old.”
The road sweepers will soon be complemented by a state-of-the-art roadjetter fitted with a 100”-wide spray bar powered by a high pressure 2,500 psi water pump which is driven by a donkey engine. A roadjetter makes a perfect partner for a road sweeper, delivering water at high speeds to dislodge all debris from the road surface. The spray bar on the roadjetter can be positioned left or right to move the debris across the carriageway as it is being cleaned, ready for the road sweeper to collect.
Chris is full of praise for his 12-strong crew whose hard work, dedication and expertise have made Top Sweep Services the success story it is today. The contracts manager, Ivan Bell, brings a wealth of experience to the table, ensuring that every project is meticulously managed.
“Our people are our greatest asset. It’s a real team effort. We employ our own mechanics who maintain and service the road sweepers, and also carry out three-month checks. Health & Safety is paramount in every aspect of our business.”
Offering a 24/7 emergency callout service, Top Sweep Services prides itself on its dependable, value-for-money solutions which are carried out by licenced, insured and professionally-trained environmental technicians. All road sweepers are equipped with high-pressure water jets, thus enabling the team to clean using either a fan or pencil-jet spray. Furthermore, all trucks are equipped with reverse cameras, sensors and sound alarms to ensure all drivers have a full vision of their surroundings.
A suction excavator is a cleverly-designed machine that uses the power of suction to safely and quickly remove earth and ground materials. The suction tube draws the material up and into the holding tank within the excavator. .Vacuum excavation is the safest method of excavation around utilities. Risk of damage to the utilities is eliminated. The excavated material is contained in the vehicle rather than deposited on the side of the trench which is important in confined spaces.
Committed to preserving the environment and enhancing road and site safety, Top Sweep Services would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients and suppliers for their continued support.
Here's to the next five years and many more!
