Gannon Transport & Environmental Systems Ltd in Creggs, Co. Galway recently took delivery of a stunning new Scania 660S V8 Tag as part of its ongoing replenishment programme.
Purchased from T Nolans Scania in Castleisland, Co. Kerry and featuring a host of extras, including retarder, full catwalk, hydraulics, greaser, Kelsa bars and spots, Durabrights, front air suspension, V8 leather pack and graphics, the new arrival has been put to work collecting and disposing of liquid and bulk waste nationwide. It is the pride of the Gannon fleet which includes seven other Scania tractor units (R620s x3, R580s x2, an R480 and a 164 530), eight Crossland vacuum tankers, seven Fruehauf tipping trailers and a Jet Vac truck which is used for septic tank draining.
Founded in 2010, Gannon Transport & Environmental Systems Ltd – or Gannon Transport for short – is a leading specialist in the collection, storing and land-spreading of organic waste. It is run in tandem with the Gannon family’s long-established agricultural contracting business which is a vital cog in the whole operation.
“Gannon Transport and Maurice Gannon Agri Contractor go hand-in-hand,” explains Kenneth Gannon, who is involved in the business along with his father Maurice and brothers David and Conor.
“My father started off providing an organic waste recycling service to a local meat factory who he supplies beef to. This led to him setting up Gannon Transport in 2010, but we didn’t really get going until 2013. Since then, we’ve grown our client-base to include chicken factories, anaerobic digestion (AD) plants, distilleries as well as numerous piggeries and domestic customers.
“We manage the haulage, storage and land banks for spreading the organic waste and sludge for three different meat plants. We also transport and spread the digestate from AD plants.
Kenneth continues: “The land-spreading is carried out in conjunction with our agri contracting business. We use umbilical systems for spreading digestate, cattle and pig slurries. The waste is piped from the tanker to the field where the tractor and slurry equipment does the rest.
“We have two Valtra tractors dedicated to this work, one for pumping and one for spreading. We also have two Belmac 3,500-gallon slurry tankers with trailing shoes and two Major tankers, one with a dribble bar system and one with a disc injector system. There are very few environmental waste management companies who provide the type of services that we do.”
Gannon Transport’s state-of-the-art vehicles, coupled with its highly-trained and professional team, ensure its clients’ schedule and budget is always maintained. Customers choose the NWCPO-licensed company for its experienced, reliable, fully insured, safe, fast and effective and value-for-money service.
“We utilise the latest technology and modern machinery along with a top-class team to ensure our customers of an efficient and effective service. Our people are our greatest asset and we’re lucky to have them. They’re equally at home working for Gannon Transport as for Maurice Gannon Agri Contractor. That flexibility counts for a lot,” Kenneth says.
“Our staff never let us down. It’s a real team effort. I cannot stress enough the importance of having people who are reliable and trustworthy. We also insist on keeping a fresh and immaculately-turned out fleet. How your vehicles look says everything about your company. If they are clean and well presented, it gives a good impression.”
Having initially catered for customers in the Midlands and West, Gannon Transport now has a nationwide reach. “If we get a call to go anywhere in Ireland, we’ll go. We’re transporting and spreading slurry and digestate all over Ireland at this stage. If it’s far away, we’ll set out with the tractors the day before and follow with the trucks.”
Gannon Transport evolved from Maurice’s agri contracting business which straddles the Galway-Roscommon border and is over 40 years in business. Having started baling hay in the early 1980s and silage harvesting in 1986, he now provides a complete service, including silage harvesting, slurry spreading, muck spreading, fertiliser spreading, ploughing and reseeding.
Committed to providing a top-class service and complete customer satisfaction, Maurice has an array of machinery, including one of the finest fleets of Valtra tractors in the country, to carry out agri contracting work quickly and efficiently. The success of the business can be attributed to the knowledge, skill and expertise of its staff as well as the quality of its machinery. Maurice and his highly-skilled team deliver the value and quality farmers expect from their agricultural contracting partner.
As Gannon Transport continues to go from strength to strength, the Gannon family would like to take this opportunity to thank their clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as their team for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
