Warehouse expansion at KOG Logistics
26/09/2024
These are exciting times for KOG Logistics Ltd, a family-run business, which has just completed a 50,000 sq. ft. warehouse extension at its facility in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.
The 10,000-pallet capacity state-of-the-art extension represents a €5 million investment and gives the leading warehousing and logistics company over 170,000 sq. ft. in total warehouse space, reflecting its continued growth and success. The warehouse is fully secure and features a temperature-controlled air-to-water heating system and solar PV panels which were tailored to create a more sustainable and cost-effective building.
Furthermore, the new facility is strategically located on the newly opened N5 Westport to Turlough Road which bypasses Castlebar, making it more accessible than ever. The extended warehouse is equipped with four new narrow aisle forklifts and can cater for all pallet sizes. KOG Storage and Logistics handles and stores goods for around 75 loyal and valued customers. It works with various national and international companies in the areas of pharma, manufacturing, healthcare, and general storage offering contract storage solutions.
“We’re delighted with the extension which will cater for our customers’ needs and keep us on an upward trajectory,” KOG Storage and Logistics general manager Cathal Walshe says.
“It's important that we grow with our customers. The last thing we want to be doing is turning down work. We have increased our warehouse space from 120,000 sq. ft. to 170,000 sq. ft. and have plans to expand further in the next 24 months if the demand is there.”
KOG Storage and Logistics has come a long way since it was formed almost 27 years ago in August 1997 by managing director Kevin O’Grady. It has grown to employ 13 people, including Kevin’s sister Anne Dunne who is the company’s long-serving accounts manager. With a background in haulage throughout Europe, Kevin initially ran a small fleet of trucks before outsourcing the haulage work to reputable accredited local haulage companies and focussing on contract storage.
Nowadays, KOG Storage and Logistics offers contract storage and logistics solutions for its clients across Ireland and also overseas. These include Inventory Management, Warehousing and Document / Data Storage and temperature-controlled warehousing. The premises on the Ballinrobe Road is designed to ensure that the required storage conditions are maintained, suitably secure, structurally sound and offer sufficient capacity to allow safe storage and handling of all products.
Arguably KOG Storage and Logistics’ greatest asset is its people. Its highly skilled team ensures that great care and attention is applied throughout all stages of the process. The company is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and holds a Health Products Regulatory Authority Licence.
KOG Storage and Logistics provides customers with a wide range of services to an ever-expanding and sophisticated client-base that is tailored to each customer’s needs with emphasis on security and confidentiality. The company is committed to maintaining and developing first-class customer relationships.
“We’d be nothing without customers who have stuck with us through thick and thin. As a family-run business, we’re able to offer them that personal touch that you just don’t get from larger warehouse operators. When a customer rings, they are straight through to the right person. There is no middleman. They also know that we will always go the extra mile for them,” Cathal explains.
The primary aim of KOG Logistics Ltd is to store customers’ items in a safe, secure and confidential area that is monitored by CCTV 24/7. Along with 24-hour security, customers also get ambient and temperature-controlled (between 15 and 25 degrees) storage along with temperature monitoring and recording.
The pallet holding facility that KOG Storage and Logistics provides is for both short and long-term customers, temperature monitoring, packaging and repackaging services, multiple docks for safe, quick and easy loading and unloading, and easy access to all vehicles.
The company provides a wide range of services, to Pharmaceutical, Computing and Printing, Healthcare, and Cosmetics sectors and to private professionals, offering timely, efficient, cost-effective and flexible ambient and temperature-controlled warehousing solutions tailored to clients’ specific requirements.
Furthermore, the Co. Mayo firm can provide tailored logistics solutions to any customer’s needs – small or big. The company also offers a delivery and collection service.

It is the aim of KOG Storage and Logistics to be the preferred contract storage facility of raw materials to the local Pharmaceutical, Drinks, Medical Devices, Manufacturing and Professional sectors.
“Since its inception, we have continuously expanded our facilities here in Castlebar. State-of-the-art handling equipment, racking, warehouses, ITC equipment and technology are all evidence of our commitment to excellence and value-for-money.”
