All systems go for 10th anniversary Tipperary Truck Show in Holycross
19/08/2024
Set for the weekend of August 31/September 1, the 2024 Tipperary Truck Show will mark its 10th anniversary at a new venue in Holycross. It promises to be the best show yet going by what one of its organisers Daire Maher had to say to Irish Trucker in the build-up.
It’s almost ‘Showtime’ again for truck owners and enthusiasts across Ireland and the Tipperary Truck Show is certainly one to mark down in the calendar this summer.
On its 10th anniversary, one of the country’s premier truck shows will be staged at a brand-new venue in Holycross, Co Tipperary on the weekend of weekend of August 31/September 1.
After the forced cancellation of last year show due to poor weather conditions, the 2024 Tipperary Truck Show promises to be a special one whether you’re entering into the many show and shine categories or just being an entrant to relax and enjoy the weekend.
Irish Trucker spoke with co-organiser Daire Maher about what those attending the event at the end of August can expect over the weekend.
“There are a few small changes this year in that Paddy Graham, Ken Ryan and Philly Ryan are heading it up this year. They’re driving it on,” he outlined.
“(The) Dualla (Show) was a rally unique show and probably the first of its type in this country. It had a real variety at it where the truck was just kind of part of it and it slotted in really well and complemented the rest of the show because you had tractor pulling there and a lot of agri-based stuff. Both shows complemented each other.
“The lads are out on their own this year though and it’s a completely new show, but the main emphasis is that it’s still going to be a family orientated show and still going to be plenty to do there for a family, and that’s a big thing for us. It’s something that we want to carry on at the new venue.”
He added: “We’re going fine, look, we would’ve always been weather dependant but, because we’re gone to hard standing ground this year, it’s not going to be as dependant.
“Look, we want good weather for it obviously but we’re not as reliant for it this year. That end of it is now quite as important.”
Having previously been run in conjunction with the Dualla Show, the Tipperary Truck Show’s new venue was something which all parties agreed on after 2023’s event was cancelled due to the unfortunate wet conditions of that weekend.
For Daire, the day of field show in this country is done and, with a new venue, he is confident of the show’s success this summer as it gets back up and running.
“Last year was a disaster for any show that was held in a field. Not only for ourselves, but others as well,” he said.
“This year it’s being held in Holycross at a disused Roadstone site which is 28 acres of hard standing. To me, shows on grass are probably finished down to the weather.
“This year is the 10-year anniversary of the show. We’re at it since 2014 and started with about 150 lorries. Dennison Trailers are the main sponsors of the show and we’re delighted to have them back.”
Indeed, Daire, Paddy Graham from Paddy Graham Truck & Trailer Repairs & Servicing, and Philly Ryan are all looking forward to welcoming truck owners and enthusiasts from all over Ireland and the UK for what is set to be one of the premier transport and logistics events in Ireland this year.
Looking at the events taking place over the weekend, Daire says there’ll be more than ever this year with public permitted to enter through the gates from 5pm on the Saturday.
“Due to the success of 2022 when we had above 1300 lorries, that brought its own downfall in that we were forced to get an event licence last year which kind of cut our numbers back.
“It meant that we had a cut-off point from what numbers were allowed. This year it’s basically unlimited where it’s still going to be online and that’s just the done thing now.
“Trucks in Saturday and the public will be allowed from 5pm Saturday evening and we’ll have the barbeque that evening as normal and a good band there as well. It’ll be open to the public up til around 11 o’clock Saturday night.
“On Sunday then, it’ll be open again to the public from 10am, with the judging of the lorries starting on Saturday evening through Sunday and the prizes will be given out at about 4pm on Sunday with over 25 categories.”
Everyone is more than welcome to come and experience all the brilliant entertainment, shows, food stalls, vendors and show trucks on display at the 2024 Tipperary Truck Show.
In his own words, Daire Maher predicts that “it’ll be a fine show” at Holycross on the weekend of August 31-September 1.
“The same lads are involved in it and we know how to put on a proper show,” he enthused.
“People have always been very good to us. We generally get the same core group of people that come to the show every year and we’d always have new people that come, and once they come once, they generally come back every year.
“It’ll be a fine show.”
The amazing crew from BUMBLEance, The Children’s Ambulance Service will also be on hand this year at the Tipperary Truck Show, so be sure and check out their amazing service and support them if you can.
