Based just outside of New Ross, Co Wexford, Paddy O’Grady Mobile Tyre Services provides its customers in the south east with mobile tyre services for cars, vans and trucks, while also offering a 24/7 breakdown service. Irish Trucker caught up with Paddy O’Grady to hear all about his company – from its origins to the state of business today.

It’s seven years now since Wexford man Paddy O’Grady set-up his own mobile tyre service venture and today things are very much flourishing business-wise.

Specialising in agricultural machinery, Paddy O’Grady Mobile Tyre Services repairs tyres for all cars, vans, trucks, tractors etc, operating with four vehicles on the road.

Paddy heads up a team of three full-time staff, with his father Paddy snr and brother Darren both involved in the business

Irish Trucker touched base with the man himself recently to find out more about the company, its growth over the past half decade or so and overall hopes moving forward.

“The business is established since 2017 and also trades as Premium Truck Tyres Ltd,” Paddy outlined.

“We’d have three full-time with us and mainly do mobile tyre services like road side breakdowns and fleet management on lorries. For the farming community, we do a lot of agricultural repairs and sales.”

Since its inception, the company has grown year on year to the point now where its perhaps as busy as it has ever been.

Having spent the best part of a decade in the industry himself, Paddy took the bold decision to go out on his own in ’17, hit the ground running once he did and hasn’t looked back since.

In 2019 – just two years into its birth – Paddy O’Grady Mobile Tyre Services won the Tyre Company of the Year at the annual South East Radio Customer Excellence Awards.

Needless to say, Paddy and his team made a quick impression with customers in providing them a quality service and, for the Model County native, it had been the clear plan he wanted to take from the moment he first set out his stall.

“I spent almost 10 years working for a tyre company and I took a notion that I wanted to go and do it for myself,” he said.

“I’d built up a good customer base by that stage and, from the very first day I started, I haven’t looked back. I’ve been busy every day since, thank God.

“Business is very good at the minute. We’re looking after a lot of lorries, so we would never have a dull moment here and, hopefully, things will continue that way.”

The trend certainly suggests as much.

Since ‘Day One’, Paddy O’Grady Mobile Tyre Services has been providing its services to customers within a one-hour drive of its home base in Boderan.

It sees the company carrying out tyre repairs for all types of cars, vans, trucks and tractors all over Wexford and into Waterford and south Kilkenny.

Of course, quality service can’t be carried out without the correct equipment and Paddy has invested in a superb fleet and machinery to ensure the job gets done right each and every time for the customer.

“We have three big vans and one small van,” he stated. “We bought a new truck balancer as well as a truck tyre changer last year, and a new plant trailer for carrying commercial tyres. We bought a new van at the start of last year which is a 231 Sprinter, so we’re set now with what we have.”

As for plans to add to the team of staff, Paddy explained that getting the right personnel in this particular line of work can be a bit more challenging than some might expect.

“To be honest with you, we can’t increase our staff here at the moment because we can’t find staff. I’m sure everyone else has the same problem, but trying to find the right people to do this kind of work is difficult at the moment,” said the company founder.

The way Paddy sees it, it has to be the right person if he or she’s going to be on the road carrying out repairs and other services on his company’s behalf and it’s an approach which has certainly paid dividends thus far.

So, all of that considered, the burning question is what has been the secret behind the success of Paddy O’Grady Mobile Tyre Services to date?

How has a small start-up grown into what is very much a thriving mobile tyre repair and 24/7 breakdown business which holds an excellent reputation among its customers.

For Paddy, he cites a couple of different factors behind the continued rise of this venture.

“We’re there, we’re available and we’re very reliable and we’ve reasonable rates,” he stated.

“Two years into it, we won the Customer Service of the Year award from South East Radio and we got great feedback on social media and everything from that. It feels like we’ve been busy from the day we started here.”

Looking at the months ahead for the company as it heads towards ‘year eight’, its founder is eager to keep things moving in the same direction.

“We want to keep going as strong as we’re going. We just want to keep going and everything happy,” Paddy concluded.
