Ronan Travers Haulage always delivers

Ronan Travers Haulage Ltd is a well-established business specialising in timber, walking floor and general haulage.

Based in Omagh, Co. Tyrone, the company was founded in 2018 by local man Ronan Travers who had previously worked for Michael Doherty Haulage and also in Australia. “I drew timber for Michael Doherty and saw an opening for another timber transport provider in the area,” says Ronan, who is supported in the business by his wife Katriona.

“So I bought a Scania R450 tag axle with a walking floor trailer and grew it from there.”

Ronan now runs five Scania artics along with two walking floor trailers and a Robinson timber trailer with a Palfinger crane. Last year, he invested in a stunning new Scania S500 and a STAS walking floor trailer which are used for drawing brash (lower branches of trees). The brash is mulched and used as a compost.

A Scania R450 pulls the other walking floor trailer, while Ronan pulls the timber trailer himself with his Scania 540S. The other two trucks, a R450 and a R500, are dedicated to refrigerated and general transport work.

Timber transport accounts for 90% of Ronan’s business with Balcas in Enniskillen being his main supplier. His other suppliers are Western Forestry in Sligo and RJ Woodland Services in Omagh. “I buy and sell hardwood and softwood in 40ft loads for firewood customers. I also supply pulpwood to biomass customers,” he explains.

“We were exceptionally busy during the Covid-19 pandemic when there was a big demand for timber, especially from people who took the opportunity to carry out renovations and improvements to their homes.”

The Co. Tyrone haulage firm takes great pride in the appearance of its trucks which are maintained and serviced on a regular basis by McCrabbe Garage Ltd in Victoria Bridge, Strabane and McFarland Ltd in Omagh to ensure there is no such thing as downtime.

Behind the wheel of every Travers truck is a reliable, experienced and courteous driver. “Our drivers are the best in the business. They enjoy a great rapport with the customers and always deliver the goods,” Ronan asserts.

As a first-generation haulier, Ronan has had to work harder than most to establish himself and build-up a customer-base.

“If my father or another family member had been at it before me, it probably would have been easier. Starting from scratch in this business is challenging, but the hard work is starting to pay off. My phone is ringing a lot more than it used to and that’s down to the good name and reputation we have. We get a lot of repeat business and recommendations from satisfied customers.

“We appreciate any business we get and will always go the extra mile for our customers.”
