It’s been a case of so far, so good for Steve Molloy Truck & Plant Services Ltd which was set up three years ago near the Gaeltacht village of Inverin, Co. Galway as a one-stop shop for all your commercial and agri vehicle needs.
Specialising in servicing repairs and diagnostics on a wide range of truck, tractor, plant and agri machinery, Steve Molloy Truck & Plant Services provides the full spectrum of proactive and reactive solutions to ensure that downtime is kept to an absolute minimum and vehicle owners can get back on the road as quickly, efficiently and safely as possible. Also offering sales, plant hire, welding and hydraulic hose repairs and a mobile breakdown service, the company prides itself on its top-class, cost-effective and friendly service.
Trucks and heavy machinery are in owner Steve Molloy’s blood. His grandfather Stephen Molloy and granduncle Gerry were involved in groundworks in the UK for many years, while his father is also in the groundworks business. Steve cut his teeth with John Magee of Agri Mac Service & Plant Hire in Rosscahill, driving and carrying out repairs for five years, before serving his time as a truck mechanic with Galway Truck & Van Centre on the Headford Road, Galway.
After seven years there, he decided to go out on his own in 2021 and hasn’t looked back since. “It’s going well,” he says.
“We’ve earned a good reputation in the industry for breakdown, repairs, sales and plant hire. We’ve built up a good-sized customer-base in a relatively short space of time. We’ve very grateful for their support and loyalty. We maintain fleets for the likes of Brian Curran Plant Hire, Moycullen Crushing Services, Ultan Curran Plant & Agri, Eamonn Curran Plant Hire, Agri Mac Service & Plant Hire, Mid-Cork Electrical, Breizon Teo, Denis Quinn Plant Hire and Fox Contracts.
“We have a wide and varied client-base which continues to grow, mainly through word of mouth and recommendations from satisfied customers.”
Steve and his small but dedicated team can carry out all necessary repairs to your vehicle at their state-of-the-art, five-bay workshop which is constantly being upgraded and boasts a full range of diagnostics for all makes and models. From servicing and inspections to diagnostics, recovery and repairs, Steve Molloy Truck & Plant Services has everything covered.
“I have two people with me, one full-time and one part-time. We repair and service everything from trucks and trailers to plant machinery and Volvo articulated dump trucks. We have a Vitillo hose-making
machine and sell new and second-hand machinery sourced only from reliable resources. We also supply new generators which are sourced from Ireland, the UK and China.”
Furthermore, the company has an array of plant, including diggers, dumpers, telehandlers, cherry pickers and an assortment of smaller equipment, available for hire.
“There is a good demand for all our hired machines,” the affable Galway man reports.
“We have diggers ranging from 0.5-tonne to 13-tonne, dumpers from 1-tonne to 10-tonne and cherry pickers from 12.5 metres to 17 metres. The diggers are mainly Hitachi, the dumpers are Thwaites, the teleporters are JCB and the cherry pickers are a mix of Genie and Skyjack. We hire a good bit of stuff to the construction sector and to the Department of the Marine.
“We have something for everyone.”
Looking to the future, Steve says: “We will keep doing our best to offer the best possible service to our customers. We have a lot of loyal customers and are attracting new ones all the time. The key is to be able to do whatever they need us to do. We’re always willing to go the extra mile and won’t see anyone stuck.”
