KMG Commercials)

KMG Commercials Ltd is a new truck repair depot in Ballygawley, Co. Tyrone specialising in servicing, repairs, diagnostics and brake tests. Proprietor Kevin McGorman explains more.

Strategically located a minute’s drive from the Ballygawley Roundabout on the main Dublin-Donegal Road, KMG Commercials provides an exceptional repair and maintenance service to a growing number of truck operators in the region. The garage can carry out all necessary maintenance and repairs to your truck or trailer at its two-bay workshop, which boasts a full range of diagnostics for all makes and models.

Among the services provided are PSV preparation, vehicle servicing, engine diagnostics, brake and clutch repair fitting, engine and gearbox replacement, and exhaust repair and fitting. The workshop also carries a wide range of spare parts and offers a 24/7 mobile breakdown service. KMG Commercials is committed to providing a complete range of proactive and reactive solutions to ensure downtime is kept to an absolute minimum and vehicle owners can get back on the road as quickly and safely as possible.

“It’s been a case of so far, so good,” Kevin McGorman explains.

“I ran a transport company in England, but moved home just before my first child was born. I’ve got three children now, and have no regrets about coming home and setting up this business. The support I’ve received from truck owners in the area has been amazing. They've really rowed in behind me.”

Kevin’s passion for trucks was instilled in him by his father Declan, who operates DJ McGorman & Son Transport from the same premises. Declan runs a small fleet of Volvo and Scania trucks and flat trailers which haul steel nationwide for Hibernia Steel Products in Slane, Co. Meath. He has been a huge help to Kevin in getting his commercial workshop off the ground, as has his sister Sinead McMahon, who looks after all the paperwork.

“I’ve been around lorries for as long as I can remember. All my Saturdays as a kid were spent around them which led to me becoming a truck mechanic after I left school. I know nothing else,” the affable Tyrone man says.

Kevin services his father’s fleet as well as those of another 20 or so clients. “Most of them have 10-15 lorries,” he points out. Preparing your vehicle for PSV testing is all part of the service provided by Kevin and his small but dedicated team, who will answer any queries you may have before and after the test. Their objective is to prepare the vehicle efficiently and assist the vehicle owner in getting a pass certificate.

“We pride ourselves on our quick turnaround time and being a reliable, efficient and friendly service that you can count on. Our workshop caters for heavy and light goods vehicles and is stocked with all the latest equipment, including Jaltest diagnostic tools, shaker plates and roller brake testers, to carry out servicing, repairs and maintenance to the highest standards.

“Time is money for our customers and with this in mind, we keep their downtime to a minimum by carrying out repairs and servicing quickly and efficiently. We’re here to keep the wheels of your fleet turning with routine maintenance, servicing and repairs.

“We continue to attract new customers through word of mouth and referrals from existing clients. We’ve never had to advertise.”

Kevin has a fully-kitted mobile unit dedicated to his 24-hour breakdown service which covers a wide area. He also has a fully-restored Scania 164 480 that he uses for bringing trailers to testing.

“We understand that being stranded on the side of the road can be stressful and dangerous, so we make it our business to get out to the customer immediately. More often than not, we will get them going again there and then,” he says.

Tyrone Truck & Trailer and Raymond Doody Truck Parts – both of which are based in Omagh – ensure KMG Commercials has access to spare parts seven days a week.

“We never see anyone stuck, be it for parts, breakdown or repairs. If someone rings me, I will always answer. I’m never off duty,” Kevin smiles.

Opening hours are from 7am to 6pm Monday-Friday and 7am to 5pm on Saturdays. As KMG Commercials continues to go from strength to strength, Kevin would like to take this opportunity to thank his customers and suppliers for their continued support as well as his hard-working team for their dedication and expertise.

“We aim to service and repair your vehicle to a standard that will exceed your expectations,” he concludes.
