Established in 1995, GM Commercials in Dungannon is a one-stop shop for all your commercial vehicle needs, including truck sales, fleet maintenance, yard shunter hire, HGV repairs, van repairs, PSV preparation, 24/7 breakdown and recovery, gearbox and diff repairs, 6/12-week inspections, vehicle hire and truck accessories.
From humble beginnings, the family-run business has grown to become the commercial garage of choice for many fleet and commercial vehicle owners in the region. When it comes to looking after trucks, trailers and vans, there’s nothing GM Commercials can’t do. GM Commercials is run by father-and-son Gary and Adam Montgomery along with a 14-strong team of mechanics, drivers and storemen. Their highly-trained and experienced mechanics can carry out all necessary repairs to your vehicle at their state-of-the-art workshop which is constantly being upgraded and boasts a full range of diagnostics for all makes and models. The Co. Tyrone company prides itself on its fast, efficient, cost-effective and friendly service.
“My father started out with a car and compressor before opening a small commercial garage offering accident repairs,” Adam explains.
“We evolved from there to offer a wide range of services. We built a three-bay garage from scratch which is now a fully-kitted out eight-bay garage with two sets of 40-tonne truck lifts, one 5-tonne truck lift, two sets of MAHA brake rollers and an overhead crane for chassis and gearbox work to name but a few. We are also a tachograph centre.
“We have the knowledge and expertise to carry out repairs and diagnostics to any commercial vehicle. Our traditional values on customer service and workmanship, combined with our continuous investments in IT, training, tools and equipment as well as workshop modernisations, enables us to deliver exceptional repair and maintenance solutions to our customers.”
Repeat business has been key to the success of GM Commercials which can count Moy Park, Bradley Transport, Skea Eggs, Corrigan Vehicle Hire, Donaghmore Fuels, Principal Cooling, McBurney Transport, Strathroy Dairies and Agro Merchants among its long list of valued clients. It also works closely with other recovery operators such as DP Commercials in Belfast and O’Hare Commercials in Newry.
“We have four heavy recovery vehicles and three callout vans covering Ireland and the UK,” Adam says.
“We have a Scania T144 530 with Boniface Maxireach Lowline H boom and low loader that can pull up to 120 tonnes. We also have a Fassi 60-tonne crane on a Scania 164 480. Our other recovery trucks are a Scania R620 and a Scania R560, while we have three Volkswagen Crafters on the road, including a dedicated parts van.
“Our recovery drivers are available 24 hours a day to assist you. No matter where you are, when you’re there or what vehicle you have, we can provide recovery. We can collect and drop off to any location.”
In addition, GM Commercials has a large selection of tippers, cherry pickers and shunter trucks available for short or long-term hire. The shunter trucks provide low running costs, excellent maneuverability and unique cabin ergonomics. Drivers can enjoy superior safety and working comfort with a smoother ride, excellent visibility and easy access. The Montgomery’s range of shunters provide unobstructed views in every direction for even safer use.
“We have 14 Terberg shunters on hire to Strathroy Dairies and Agro Merchants at the moment. We also provide a ‘lift and collect’ service for shunters. We have a large selection of Terberg shunters available for sale and hire. They are specifically designed for the movement of road trailers around distribution yards.”

“We do a lot of repair work on trailers such as Moffett Mounty. But there is a good demand for all of our services,” Adam continues.
