HAJ Repairs has added another string to its bow by becoming an Approved Tachograph Centre (ATC). Director Andrew Dempsey explains more about the Bellaghy-based garage which specialises in commercial vehicle repairs and servicing, individual repairs and crane, plant and machinery repairs.

As an Approved Tachograph Centre, HAJ Repairs offers competitive prices for fitting and calibration of digital and analogue tachographs. The family-run business provides an express service for tachographs – they do them while you wait which means less time for HGV vehicles off the road. The new service covers digital and analogue tachographs, calibrations, reseals, repairs and replacements for any make of truck, coach or minibus.

The opening of the Approved Tachograph Centre comes after HAJ Repairs added a second workshop in 2019. This features a bespoke dispatch PMI lane which caters for all types of commercial vehicle brake, headlight and smoke testing while you wait.

“We have invested heavily in making the garage a one-stop shop for all your commercial vehicle repair and servicing needs,” Andrew says.

“From humble beginnings, we have grown to employ 14 people and to offer dealer-level service and repairs to customers on both sides of the border. We continue to go from strength to strength by providing a professional, reliable, friendly and value-for-money service.”

Established in 1994 by Andrew’s father, Harry, who continues to be involved in the business, HAJ Repairs offers complete truck, bus, coach, commercial, car, crane and plant service and repairs, including full service and inspection, computer diagnostics, MOT / PSV services, vehicle bodywork, engine repairs, electrical repairs and fleet maintenance and management.

In addition, the South Derry concern has six mobile service units on the road which carry out onsite repairs 24/7, all year round. These breakdown vehicles are a mix of Iveco, Volkswagen and Ford.

The garage’s experienced team of technicians have a wide range of knowledge and expertise in the servicing and maintenance of commercial and private vehicles. They can also repair and service all makes of truck and trailer, bus and coach. The workshop is equipped to undertake minor or major mechanical and structural repairs five days a week (8am-6pm) at a competitive price.

“Our premises boasts two workshops, four commercial bays, a spacious yard and a waiting area where you can have a tea or a coffee while your vehicle is being serviced or tested. The workshops are kitted out with state-of-the-art equipment, including a range of lifts. The diagnostic systems we use are Iveco, Mercedes and Texa.

“We fully understand the importance of getting your vehicle back on the road as quickly as possible and avoiding any downtime.”

Andrew continues: “We also have a testing bench for Webasto and Eberspacher heaters with a very fast turnaround, and we keep a large number of spare parts in stock for those.”

Furthermore, HAJ Repairs have a state-of-the-art computerised system which handles everything from email reminders informing vehicle owners that their vehicles are due for inspection or servicing to job card, stock, parts and invoicing. Installed in 2017, the system has further enhanced the outstanding level of customer care afforded by the Andrew, Harry and their team.

Fleet maintenance is a big part of the business and to this end, HAJ Repairs has a growing client list which includes Health & Social Care Northern Ireland (HSCNI), RPS Group (Water Services), Enterprise Flex E Rent, Sainsbury’s, Education Authority and Department of Agriculture, Environment & Rural Affairs (DAERA).

“We look after everything from bodywork and chassis cab repairs to tyre fitting, tail-lifts and refrigerated units,” Andrew explains.

“The level of workmanship we provide and the complete lack of hassle for our customers is getting us a lot of work. Most of our work is secured through word of mouth and referrals from satisfied customers. I’m very particular about every job we do and we definitely give that bit extra. Customers appreciate that.”

Flexibility has been key to the business’ continued success and growth, according to the affable garage owner.

“We have a very close relationship with all of our customers and we change with the times in response to their demands. We listen very carefully to our customers’ demands and to what they want us to do. If they want us to open late on a particular night to get a job done, then that’s what we will do. You have to be flexible and look after them because the bottom line is that without customers there wouldn’t be a business here. They are the ones who are helping us to expand and move forward. We have to work together with our customers.

Looking to the future, Andrew says HAJ Repairs is committed to continuing to provide unrivalled maintenance and electrical and mechanical repair services to a long list of satisfied truck, coach, car, crane, van, minibus, forklift and tractor owners.

He would like to take this opportunity to thank his customers and suppliers for their continued support as well as his technicians, drivers and administration staff for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
