Wicklow-based Hudson Brothers Limited has raised the standard of truck comfort and design in the concrete and aggregates sector to a new level of sophistication with the purchase of their first-ever Mercedes-Benz.
Choosing a high power, high torque Actros 2553 Bigspace articulated truck and tipping trailer combination, the company has directed investment into additional driver comfort, safety and design features that it says ‘takes our transportation beyond the ordinary in terms of its operational and visual appeal’.
Supplied by Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicle dealer MUTEC, evident are features likely to be incorporated in future units. These include high-gloss bodywork with exterior chrome accents, Dura-Brite alloy wheels, black-and-silver colour-coordinated livery on tractor and trailer, plus a bank of spotlights for winter work and numerous other practical extras.
Operating out of the company’s quarry in Blessington, the truck will soon become a familiar site on roads throughout the garden county and beyond. Its car-like features include a Styleline interior with leather seats, fridge, table and a double comfort bunk bed. Its open box-bed trailer is powered by tipping units supplied and fitted by Ballymount-based hydraulic specialists, Hi Power Limited. Safety elements include numerous driver-assist features now common across the Mercedes-Benz passenger car and commercial vehicles ranges.
Established in 1971, Hudson Brothers produce and supply raw materials to the civil works and construction industry sectors, operating from its state-of-the-art quarry at  Phillipstown, near Blessington. Known for the quality of their materials, investment made by the company over time can be seen also in the range of static and mobile rock crushing plant and graders in use at Blessington.
