Truck Run 4 Katie takes place Sept 26-27
18 August 2015
The ‘Full of the Pipe Truckshow Ireland’ will help host a special event to honour the memory of Katie Drennan, who lost her life to Cystic Fibrosis earlier this year. ‘Truck Run 4 Katie’ takes place at The Auburn Lodge Hotel in Ennis on September 26th and all trucks can register from 9am to 2pm on the day.
In February, people in the town of Ennis in Co Clare were shocked and saddened to hear of the death of 24-year-old Katie Drennan, who suffered from Cystic Fibrosis.
Described as a “remarkable lady” by Cystic Fibrosis Association chief executive officer, Philip Watt, Katie was an inspiration to sufferers of the chronic disease throughout Ireland. Three years ago she was forced to halt her business studies at the University of Limerick due to her condition but became an advocate for fundraising events, along with her family, in aid of the new €5.2million purpose built until for Cystic Fibrosis sufferers at the University Hospital Limerick.
In 2012, she was named as one of the Ennis ‘People of the Year’ for her work in raising public awareness about Cystic Fibrosis, while her funeral saw the members of the Irish Haulage Association form a Guard of Honour for her at the mass before her burial in Doolin.
Now, in association with those involved with the ‘Full of the Pipe Truckshow Ireland’, organisers Kevin Mulqueen and Colin Hegarty, along with Gerry Egan, Barry Conway and Linda Drennan have endeavoured to honour Katie’s memory by holding a charity event for truckers to enjoy a truck weekend on the 26th and 27th of September, which includes a truck run on the Saturday and a truck show on the Sunday which is open to all the trucks and families.
‘Truck Run 4 Katie’ will be held at The Auburn Lodge Hotel, along the Gort Road in Ennis, withregistration on Saturday for the truck run taking place between the times of 9.00am to 2.00pm, and the truck run itself commencing at 3.00pm.
All monies raised over the weekend will go towards the TLC Unit at University Hospital Limerick, which Katie, and her family, worked rigorously to raise funds for before her untimely passing.
So please be sure to attend the event which is sure to be a great weekend for an even better cause.
