Hireco invests £12.6m in new trailers

HIRECO, the Northern Ireland based company which provides a full rental, leasing and 24/7 breakdown service for trucks and trailers across the UK and Ireland is delighted to announce an £8 million investment in 400 new trailers, to be manufactured by SDC Trailers in Toomebridge.

A further £4.6 million has also been invested in a range of trailers from Krone, Schmitz and Dennison’s. The move comes a year after Hireco purchased £10 Million worth of trailers from SDC, highlighting their continuous process of fleet investment.

The company, which now employs over 100 people across the UK and Ireland, with depots in London, Manchester, Reading, Belfast and Dublin, was set up 30 years ago, and has more than 5,000 vehicles on the road across the UK and Ireland. Hireco rents trucks and trailers to industry leading transport and logistics companies including Wincanton and DHL. Hireco also provide transport companies with long term fixed price servicing and breakdown cover from its 24/7 service centre located in Belfast.

The new order from SDC Trailers includes 380 curtain-sider trailers and 20 box-vans’ with delivery beginning in April and running through to September.The announcement also includes 20 box vans from German trailer manufacturer Krone Trailers worth £400,000, as well as £700,000 worth of fridge trailers from Schmitz Trailers, also based in Germany. The largest single investment in the current tranche of announcements is the £3.5M worth of Skeletal Trailers purchased from Dennison’s based in Lancaster in the UK. 

Speaking after the announcement, the first of a number which the company expects to make in the coming months, Tony Wan of Hireco said that this order indicates major growth.

“The major order indicates the confidence we have in the UK’s transport and logistics industry with 1,100 new vehicles being added to the fleet last year, and an initial 600 this year. We hope to make further announcements in the next few months, as these are exciting times for the business. Continually investing in our fleet allows us to offer a high standard of service to our customers and be competitive in the equipment rental industry.”
