McLoughlin Coachworks provide all your trailer needs from their purpose built repair facility .
Not only are breakdowns costly, but they could also result in the loss of work, both are situations that need to be evaded at every opportunity.
However, repair and service work are part and parcel of the haulage industry and for this month’s edition of Irish Trucker, we profile Dungannon based McLoughlin Coachworks.
Celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, McLoughlin Coachworks can call on many years’ experience to ensure that they provide an efficient service to their large customer base.
Specialising in trailer repairs, maintenance and providing specialist services to Ireland's haulage industry, McLoughlin Coachworks provide all your trailer needs from their purpose built repair facility off the M1 at Dungannon and now at their service and parts centre in Dublin Port.
McLoughlin Coachworks are members of the Vehicle Bodybuilders and Repairers Association (VBRA) and are authorised service and repair agents for Schmitz Cargobull, Lamberet and Krone trailers.
“We are also official parts stockists for Schmitz Cargobull Trailers, Knorr Bremse, Krone Trailers and Lamberet Isotherms,” said John McLoughlin, whose father John established the business and is still involved in the day to day proceedings.
“My father had worked for Dennison’s for many years before he set up his own business. Over the years the company has grown and we now employ about 17 people.
“We would have 14 working here in Dungannon, while there would be three in our depot at Dublin Port. When the company was first started, it was from a premise in Armagh, but about 15 years ago, we moved to our current facility in Dungannon, which was purpose built.
“Three years ago, the opportunity arose to open a depot in Dublin and we did so. Basically, any haulier that may have a problem with their trailer when they come in from the ferry or are boarding can come to us and we will sort them out.
“Anything that needs to be done with a trailer we can do it. We have a very experienced workforce, most of who have been with us for many years now and with the knowledge we have, we can undertake any job.
“We use state of the art technology and we have ten workshop bays at our headquarters in Dungannon, which means that we can do multiple jobs at once. This ensures that the customer will not be waiting too long for their trailer to be serviced or repaired.”
Time is of the essence in the haulage industry and to that end, the team at McLoughlin’s ensure that a vehicle is maintained or repair to the highest standard in double quick time.
“Accidents are unfortunately something that happen from time to time but here at McLoughlin Coachworks we aim to get you back on the road quickly and with the highest levels of workmanship.”
Not only do McLoughlin Coachworks service and repair trailers, but they also offer advice on what sort of trailer would best suit their customers’ needs.
“If a customer is looking for a new trailer then we can advise on specifications, suitability for purpose and provide quotes matched with our after-sales expertise in maintenance, repairs and spare parts.”
A wide range of trailer parts are always kept in stock by McLoughlin Coachworks. “We are now stocking a range of Schmitz and Krone trailer parts. Coupled with our forthcoming online parts ordering system and delivery options throughout Ireland you can have your parts when you need them.”
Preventive maintenance is fast becoming popular within the haulage industry. Getting ahead of the problem is a major plus that can be very cost effective to all hauliers.
“Using preventative maintenance is the cheapest way to run your fleet. McLoughlin Coachworks can establish a maintenance schedule for each trailer - at regular intervals we can inspect your trailer and replace any worn parts [brakes, suspension, lighting etc.] with genuine replacements before problems arise.”
Through continued investment, dedication, superior build quality and attention to detail, McLoughlin Coachworks has become one of the main coachwork companies in the 32 counties. This is reflected in its impressive client list, which includes customers from all over the north and south of Ireland.
“We are still learning and any feedback from our customers is greatly appreciated as it is important to get everything right. We have a good team of experienced and skilled staff, which makes the job a lot easier.
“This is a tough industry to be involved in, but we would like to expand more and attract more business. We have a good reputation and that alone has got us where we are today, so if we can continue to provide the same level of service and maybe even improve on that then our customers will be even happier.”
