Twelve illegal immigrants found in refrigerated trailer

13 May 2013

A fellow motorist, who was stuck behind the vehicle on the motorway, raised the alarm after noticing unusual noises coming from the back of the German truck.

Hearing banging noises coming from the fridge, the man moved closer and noticed that the back doors seemed to be flexing as if somebody inside was trying to force them open.

He called police and then tailed the lorry until officers were despatched up the M1. The truck was directed into Watford Gap service station in Northamptonshire and the trailer was opened to discover the illegal load.

Ten people from Iran, one from Syria and one from Afghanistan were arrested on suspicion of immigration offences.
