Celebrating 35 years in business, D Kennedy Steel Supplies Ltd in Dublin continues to go from strength to strength. Founder Dan Kennedy is joined in the business by his sons Darren (transport manager) and Daniel (sales and purchasing manager) along with a 25-strong team of drivers, steel cutters, sales and office staff.

Servicing the steel industry since 1983 and with depots in Palmerstown, Dublin 20 and Greenogue Business Park, Rathcoole, D Kennedy Steel Supplies can cater for all your steel needs. As one of Ireland’s leading steel stockholders, the company provides an unrivalled service to clients through a high-quality, extensive range of products and expert advice, drawing on its vast experience and technical expertise of the Irish steel industry.

The family-run business’ impressive stock range includes steel beams / bars, steel channels, steel flats, steel angles, steel rounds, steel squares, steel tube, steel box, galve tube, sheet / plate, rebar and steel mesh. It has both the flexibility and expertise to cater for your bespoke requirements. Whether it is standard stock bars, cut to size, shot-blasted and primer painted material or a combination of all of them, D Kennedy Steel Supplies has an extensive range of saws, cutting machines and facilities to meet your precise needs.

Open from 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday-Friday and also on Saturdays to meet the demands of its customers, the company offers same-day or next-day delivery locally and prides itself on its exceptional service and friendly staff. D Kennedy Steel supplies steel to a wide range of clients in the manufacturing, industrial, farm building and construction sectors.

“We are proud to be one of Ireland’s largest independent steel stockholders, distributing thousands of tonnes per annum of stock lengths and semi-processed steel to our local and national customers,” Darren Kennedy says.

“We have been in the business for 35 years and have built up a large client-base and a reputation which is second to none in that time. Your business is our business and we do our utmost to offer complete customer satisfaction. No job is too big or too small.”

Cold sawing, guillotining of sheet and plate, folding capabilities, drilling, welding, fabrication, Plasma, flame, profiling, press brake, section rolling, painting, galvanising and delivery are among the services provided by D Kennedy Steel. The company has several saws which enable it to cut to exacting tolerances and in high volume. Its inhouse guillotining facilities can cut sheet and plate up to 12.5mm, while its CNC Plasma profile cutting machine can cut sheet and plate up to 80mm. In addition, D Kennedy Steel can fold material up to 6mm thick inhouse and deliver anywhere in Ireland.

“The steel is shipped into Warrenpoint Port and is delivered to us by Cunningham Haulage. We then make up the orders and distribute – usually in stock lengths – to our nationwide customer-base,” the affable transport manager explains.

To transport steel, you need a top-quality, robust and reliable fleet and D Kennedy Steel isn’t found wanting in this regard. Darren oversees the running of seven trucks and the same number of trailers, which are mostly Dennison and are a mixture of flats and curtain-siders. The newest addition to the fleet is a brand-new Renault T-High which D Kennedy Steel recently took delivery of from Setanta Vehicle Sales.

“We had a 141-registered Renault T 460 and decided to trade it in for the Renault T-High, which has a bigger cab. Ross Hannon is driving the new machine and absolutely loves it.”

The other trucks run by D Kennedy Steel are a 171-registered Scania S580, two 152-registered Scania R560s, a Scania 6-wheel rigid fitted with a Palfinger crane, a Renault Premium and an Isuzu 7.5 tonne truck. Completing the fleet is a classic 04-registered Peterbilt lorry, which makes regular appearances at truck shows around the country. Darren is full of praise for his six full-time drivers, including Karl Wiseman, Mick, Arnold Halpin and Ger Hayes, who are highly-experienced, professional, efficient and enjoy a great rapport with customers.

Operating from Palmerstown, Dublin 20 since its inception, D Kennedy Steel opened a second yard in Greenogue Business Park, Rathcoole last year. Both depots are superbly located, with Palmerstown being just off the M50 and Rathcoole being beside the M7, which provides direct access to the M50.

Darren concludes by saying: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank our many customers and suppliers for their continued support, and our staff for their expertise, hard work and dedication.”

Here’s to the next 35 years of the ever-growing steel specialist!
