In just three years, McNally Logistics has grown from a small, two-truck operation into one of the leading logistics and distribution companies in the North-East. This expansion has necessitated a move to a larger premises in recent months as transport manager Alan Reilly explains.

In May, McNally Logistics relocated from Mullaghboy Industrial Estate in Navan to the townland of Ardbraccan, which is where its owners hail from. The new premises is bigger and better, boasting a workshop and warehousing which will allow for further growth in the years ahead.

“We had outgrown the old premises which left us with no option but to move operations elsewhere. We’re very happy with the news premises, it’s only 6km from Navan and is close to our customers and the major ports,” Alan explains.

“We started with two trucks in 2013 and are now up to 10. Business has picked up significantly in the past year thanks to a surge in exports which is driving the economic recovery. But it remains to be seen what impact Brexit will have on Irish exports. It’s going to cause a lot of uncertainty.”

Specialising in groupage, insulation and wide and abnormal loads throughout Ireland, the UK and continental Europe, and providing daily cross border services in Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales, McNally Logistics is at the cutting edge of its industry. As a leading logistics and distribution company in the North-East, it provides professional and cost-effective Ireland and UK transport and haulage solutions that you can trust.

“We provide a groupage service in Ireland and the UK, covering all the major town and cities. We have fleet depots on both sides of the Irish Sea for speedy dispatch. We have built up a strong and loyal client-base by providing a reliable, knowledgeable, committed and value-for-money service. A lot of hard work has gone into getting us to the stage we are at now,” Alan points out.

The fleet of articulated tractors units and trailers run by McNally Logistics is among the most modern in the country. The tractor units are fitted with the latest GPS and fleet management systems to ensure close monitoring of vehicle movements and optimum efficiency across the fleet. The trailers are a mixture of curtainsiders, flats, low loaders and Euroliners, with the curtainsiders being 45ft long and 3m internal height for easy loading. The majority of the trailers are custom made to ensure maximum value for your transport costs.

“We have 30 trailers ranging from curtainsiders that cover Ireland and the UK to Euroliners, step-frame and low loaders which cover Europe. France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Austria and Italy are among the countries we cover on the continent.”

Among the curtainsiders are Profi Liners which were supplied by Krone Trailers UK. These highly-adaptable trailers feature a sliding roof which is ideal for crane loading and a fast turnaround of steel. A contract with MHI (Metal Homes Ireland) to transport houses which are assembled at the factory in Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan led to McNally Logistics investing in eight new step-frame trailers recently. MHI builds steel homes to the highest standards. The company is committed to delivering high quality, energy efficient and affordable homes which meet the need of modern living.

“We have a very good contract with MHI that has created extra work and the need for new trucks and trailers. Xtratherm, who manufacture a wide range of insulation products in Navan, are another good customer of ours,” says Alan.

The McNally Logistics fleet of tractor units comprises eight Volvo and two MAN. The company recently took delivery of three new Volvo FH460s from Irish Commercials in Naas, while it was awaiting the arrival of a new MAN TGX 480 from MAN Importers Ireland at the time of writing.

“We try to keep the fleet as fresh as possible. The newer the truck, the less chance there is of breakdowns occurring. Volvo is a firm favourite here. They are an excellent truck with a very good trade-in value. MAN is a good solid truck, very economical and comes with a four-year warranty. We have found both Joe Lynch in Irish Commercials and Paul O’Reilly in MAN Importers Ireland easy to deal with it, and that helps too.”

McNally Logistics recently changed its livery to black and white, and it must be said the new trucks look resplendent in the new colours. All of the trucks in the fleet are always immaculately turned out, with their drivers taking great pride in their appearance.

Alan, who is full of praise for his strong team of drivers and office staff, concludes by saying: “We have 10 full-time and two-part drivers as well as two office staff who are friendly, reliable and very good at what they do. They are playing a big part in our ongoing success.”
