T&M McCormack Ltd is a haulage firm that has built up an excellent rapport amongst its customers and we look at the one major change the company underwent in November 2015.

T&M McCormack was originally established in 1979 as a distribution and haulage service focusing mainly on the delivery of newspapers for Newsspread.

However, last November saw a change as the company was bought out by John Byrne and Olive McKeogh, but it must be stressed that this was the only major change as from the beginning, the husband and wife team wanted to maintain the standards their predecessors had set for them.

The company is now trading under Droplink, although the T&M McCormack Ltd name is being used as it is a subsidiary of Droplink.

John and Olive both bring excellent business acumen to the haulage firm as they have run their own companies in the medical recruitment, IT networks and contract services to the NHS in the UK.

T&M Cormack was always committed to going that extra mile for their customers and the new team are determined to carry on the same ethos over the coming years.

“We will go out of our way each and every day to make sure we do a great job for each and every client. Our background in business has been a massive help to us. We spent many years living in Dublin, but we are both from Longford and wanted to return home. We saw this as an excellent opportunity for us and to take over such a successful business is a huge boost for us.”

Situated on a 4.5 acres site in Ballymahon, the company is ideally located in the midlands to distribute their goods across the country.

Operating a fleet of three artics, seven rigids and six vans, John stressed that the time constraints in this industry are massively intense.

“We understand exactly the impact of delays because of late deliveries or when your goods sit needlessly on trucks. Stopping any delays is a top priority for Droplink and a commitment we take very seriously with all of our clients.

“We carry out our own maintenance and ensure that the fleet is in excellent working condition. Mercedes is our preferred choice of vehicle and we have recently added two brand new rigids to the fleet and there were bought from Kinahan’s in Moate, Co Westmeath.”

John added about the importance of having an excellent relationship with the customers. “There is a good relationship between us and our customers and that is very important to us. We are there at the end of the phone any time they need us, while our customers are very familiar with our drivers who they are meeting on a daily basis.

“We’re fortunate to have an excellent work force, many of who have been with the company for years and their experience is invaluable to us.”

Aside from bulk distribution, the company also offers services in pallet distribution as well as secure parking and storage.

The distribution of newspapers is confined mostly to night work and an area that John and Olive are keen to expand is the amount of day work that they do.

“Certainly, doing more day work is something that we are actively looking into. There is a gap there for us to expand and grow our customer base,” stated Olive.

“We are still relatively new to the business, but we’re pleased with the progress that we have made in such a short space of time, while warehousing is another area that we want to build on.

“This all takes time, but we are confident that with a team effort we can get there and reach our targets in the near future.

“Our team is very committed and focused to ensure every consignment goes without any problems and our back office team manages to keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.”

Health and Safety is also a key area for the business with training ongoing in this area on a regular basis.

“Our haulage management team are Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport certified. The Company believes that the welfare and safety of its employees is of paramount importance and we apply high ethical standards and reward employees fairly for their work.”
