The UK government has announced that it has given the go ahead to 44 new sustainable transport schemes.

In total, the funding will be £440 million. The Department for Transport is providing £64 million, with the remainder supplied by local enterprise partnerships and match funding.

"We want more people to choose to travel in a way that cuts congestion and carbon, delivering economic and environmental benefits," says transport minister Baroness Kramer.

"This funding will make that choice easier for millions of people across the country, delivering new sustainable transport schemes throughout England."
