The Road Safety Authority have described last weekend as one of the worst weekends on Irish roads this year.

Five people were killed on Irish roads throughout the weekend gone by. It brings to 92 the total number of fatalities so far this year.

The people involved in the fatal accidents - four from the one extended family - have been killed in two separate collisions.

A ten-year old girl and three women died instantly when their car collided with a jeep in Co. Westmeath yesterday morning.

In Co Monaghan, a pensioner was killed at around midday yesterday following a crash there.
