Breakdowns on the up, says AA

This, it says, is due to a combination of wet weather and the fact that people are driving older vehicles.

New figures released by the AA reveal an 11% increase in call outs to breakdowns in October compared to September. In addition to this, a 27% increase has been recorded in the amount of motorists making call outs due to engine trouble.

AA chief Conor Faughnan says the wet weather is a contributory factor at this time of year as it can impact on the electrical system of a vehicle and prevent it from starting:

“Make sure the battery is in good condition - and get the car serviced. If it's one of those things you're been putting on the long finger, it's really not a good idea, and it does mean the car is quite likely to let you down in poor weather.”
